Q: What is required to book a session?
In order to book a session, I request a signed contract as well as a 50% deposit. Please note that, even if we discuss a possible date, I will not officially hold any date until I receive both the deposit and the signed contract.
Q: What does the price of my package include?
Each of my packages includes the number of images shown — each image provided will be a high-resolution, print-ready digital image. Prints & albums are also available, at an additional fee. Click here to see my current prints price list.
Q: Your website says that my package comes with X number of images, does that mean that you only take X number of images?
A: No, depending on the length of our session, I will take anywhere from 200 images (for portrait sessions) to 1500+ images (for parties and events). I will then hand-select the X most beautiful images, hand-edit them to make them even more beautiful, and provide them to you.
Q: Should I purchase my prints from you or should I buy them elsewhere?
A: Many photographers will not provide clients with digital images, and instead require clients to purchase prints through them. That is not my practice, because as someone who has been a client myself, I always appreciated having my digital files so that I could make my own decisions regarding prints, albums, etc. Therefore, I will not try to sell you on buying prints from me.
If you are not concerned with the quality or shelf-life of your prints, there are many budget options to choose from including Shutterfly, Easy Canvas Prints, Walmart, and your local pharmacy.
If you choose to order prints from me, rest assured that I work with one of the best print labs in the world. All prints are printed on high-quality paper of your choice (luster, matte, linen, or canvas) using state of the art printing techniques.
Q: What should we wear? Should my family match?
A: Wear clothing that makes you (and your family) comfortable. Your images will be more beautiful if you are comfortable and relaxed. They will also be a wonderful representation of you. If your family wears clothing that matches on a regular basis and that is the look that you are after, go for it. If you are looking for portraits with a natural, relaxed feel, wear clothes that you would wear for a nice family outing to the park. If you are looking for something a bit more formal, choose attire that you might wear to church on Sunday or to a semi-formal wedding. Again, comfort is key.
Q: When can I expect to receive my digital images?
A: Turnaround time on images is typically 4 weeks for most sessions. Turnaround time on wedding images is typically 8 weeks.
Q: How can I prepare my baby or young child for our session?
A: For babies and children six months and older, make sure that your child is well-rested and full. Sleepy, hungry babies and children are the most difficult to photograph. Energized, full, and happy children are a delight! For newborns, sleepy, full babies are best! Feed your baby at the beginning of our shoot and he/she will snooze happily for us.
Q: Do you shoot destination weddings & events? What additional fees are associated with destination weddings?
A: Firefly Jar Photography is based out of Northern New Jersey, but I serve clients all around the world. My destination wedding photography packages are simply my standard packages plus the cost of travel and reasonable accommodations if necessary. Because of my frequent trips to the NYC and Jersey Shore areas, special, lower rates may apply depending on the specific circumstances.
Q: How many hours do you suggest we set aside for wedding day photos?
A: Preparation Shots – Duration: 1.5 hours
Ideally we would have 45 minutes for the girls and 45 minutes with the guys.
Couples Session – Duration: 1 hour to 1.5 hours
I highly suggest doing this before the ceremony in conjunction with a “first look.” That way you can enjoy the rest of your day without having to worry about taking too much time out for photos. Also this is when the makeup and hair are fresh. We’ll set up a first look moment so it’ll still be a surprise when you see each other. Be sure to give me at least a full hour so we can capture the amazing shots your after.
Family Formals – Duration: 1 hour
Have a list of pictures that you want with your family/friends right after the ceremony. Typically this is done at the altar but we can do it any location you’d like. Also, have one person from each side of the family that is really organized (and loud) to move people in and out of photos.
Bridal Party – Duration: 0.5 hour to 1 hour
This is where I take the bridal party out for some fun shots. This is also nice to handle before the ceremony so that you can rest and enjoy your day afterwards.
Q: Can we choose the images ourselves?
A: I prefer to choose the images for you. You are hiring me because you love my style and trust my judgment. However, if you have your heart set on choosing your images from the bunch, I can provide you with a contact sheet from which to choose your images. Please note that the images in the contact sheet will be tiny (about two inches high). You will not be able to see significant detail. If you are later unhappy with the images that you selected, there will be a fee assessed for each additional image that you select.
